Long before there was Twitter (5 years before, infact), or before the term "microblogging" was coined, there was Daily Fruit.
Daily Fruit was born October 8, 2001 for no apparent reason. It became a daily "microblog" long before I ever knew what a blog was. At the time I was just a month into my freshman year of college at Michigan State University. At the time I was posting Daily Fruit to my personal website, BugsyRocker.com.
People often say, "I don't get it," or "What does it mean?" Well, it's a personal journal. They all mean something to me, but taken out of context maybe each one could mean something different to you. I didn't always have time to write a long journal entry each day, but if I could just write a few words about that day I would be able to go back and recall that memory. So if you're thinking something along those lines, just look at each Daily Fruit individually and give it your own meaning, and if it doesn't mean anything to you, that's fine too. If it speaks to you, give it a thumbs up, if you don't get it, give it a thumbs down.
It didn't take long to have some followers and friend started anticiatping the Daily Fruit (no, it's not, never has been, and never will be called "fruit of the day". Sorry, but that's reserved for restaurants and that sorta' thing, and I know nothing about food service).
On September 8, 2006 I took Daily Fruit on the road, when I left on a year long 50-state tour of the United States. After the trip I was exhausted and seemed to have lost my creative energy for a few months. On October 8, 2007 Daily Fruit was retired, exactly six years after it was started.
Well, Michael Jordan came out of retirement, so did Jay-Z, even Celine Dion retired temporarily. Now you can put Daily Fruit in the likes of the same company, just as Jay-Z said -- "What'd you want me to do, I'm sorry, I'm back!"
Also, most people know me as "Bugsy" and I love social media, so feel free to come find me at Twitter, Digg, and Flickr.
Currently I'm in Marquette, MI in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula. At 25 I'm in my quarter-life crisis, my fastest Rubik's cube time is 66 seconds, I love photography, snowobarding, and hockey. I'm also a proud Yooper, and if you'd like to support Daily Fruit you can do so buy purchasing a U.P. t-shirt.
Feel free to contact me at anytime, I always love to hear from people across the world.
